Dear parents/carers

Please check this page regularly for new information and tasks.

Thank you for your continuous support.

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you are aware, and in compliance with government advice, Gainsborough will be closed starting Monday 23th of March until further notice. In addition to the revision material sent home last week, we would like to take this opportunity to suggest some ideas so you are able to work with your children at home.

Children will be able to access this material at home through these websites:

• Hit the button: www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

• Maths frame:  www.mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check

• Mathletics for year 2– regular tasks will be set.

In addition you can teach your children further maths with every day activities:

• Cooking: Learn about measurements, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

• Shopping: Handling money gives children real life experience with numbers. Telling the time.

• Encourage your child to read every day and read all matters of reading material, for example; newspapers, home reading books, magazines, library books, etc.  You can develop your children’s reading skills by asking questions or their opinions about what they read.

• The statutory spelling for children in year 1 & 2 is the link below or could be found on the government website under ‘National Curriculum in England: English programme of study – Appendix 1’. Please practice these with your children.

• Oxford Owl for phonics and reading: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/

Our topic in Science this term has been ‘Animals including living things’. Next term we will be learning about ‘Living things and their habitats’; we encourage you to watch documentaries on this topic. One we recommend is Blue Planet 2, available on BBC iPlayer.

Other science ideas:

• BBC Bitesize: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z6882hv

• If you have access to an outside space, spend time exploring the different species of plants and animals.

• Research a specific animal you are interested in and create a fact file.

This term we have covered London, including the history of transport, for a creative challenge create a transport model from materials at home. Next term we will be learning about the seaside, for creative challenge create a seaside from materials at home.
